NEW Workplace Health and Safety Adviser

Introducing Steve Standen....

 

NECA SA would like to welcome Steve Standen to the team as our new Workplace Health & Safety Adviser. This appointment will provide members with a higher level of occupational health and safety support, providing assistance and information to members over the telephone in addition to members having the opportunity to have tailored assistance on-site or at your business.

Steve comes to NECA SA with a wealth of knowledge and experience, with an electrical trade background having worked in the high voltage field for many years. He also has experience in OHS management in a number of industries including electrical power, pulp and paper, vehicle manufacture, bulk handling, malt manufacture, water infrastructure and rail safety.

 

The addition of Steve to the NECA SA team ensures further industry representation in regard to workplace safety issues and provides members with a ready resource to assist in any aspect regarding safety at work. For example, the need for formal safety management systems is becoming a prerequisite for many contracts and even access to major construction projects. This is an area that Steve has specialist skills and hence NECA SA will be able to assist you in navigating and meeting these stringent requirements.

 

At NECA SA we understand that the complexity of complying with Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and interpreting the many related standards can be challenging and shift focus from your core activities. With our resources and Steve in particular, you can be sure that you have the support you need in meeting your OH&S obligations whilst not losing sight of your businesses goals.

 

Steve is available to NECA SA members to provide advice on:

  • General workplace health and safety
  • Interpretation of OHS&W legislation
  • Development of safety programs relevant to your size of business
  • Implementation and impact of the pending National Workplace Health & Safety Act and Regulations
  • Development of Safety Management Plans for projects
  • Preparation of Job Safety Analyses or Safe Work Method Statements (JSAs/SWMS)
  • Preparation and submission of the OHS component of tenders and contracts
  • SafeWork SA matters such as the issue of Prohibition and Improvement Notices
  • Workers compensation and return to work
  • WorkCover premium enquiries
  • And much more.

 

Steve can also support NECA SA member businesses by providing a review of your existing Workplace Health & Safety processes and assist you with;

 

  • Audits of or your workplaces;
  • Risk assessments of worksites, your work processes or equipment;
  • Gaining and maintaining accreditation with safety management systems such as the Federal Safety Commission (FCS) and other schemes based on AS4801;
  • Investigation of workplace incidents and the preparation of reports;
  • Representing your business in dealings with SafeWork SA and other regulators.
